Discovery Guide

A 3D terrain model is not only for viewing, but for reading. Use these tips to discover the story of the land.

Reveal with Light

Set the sun to morning or evening to create long shadows that highlight subtle landforms—similar to how archaeologists detect sites in aerial imagery.

Read the Terrain

Ridges and valleys, river meanders, and terrace edges are key clues that shaped where people settled.

Walk in Explorer Mode

Check what is visible from where you stand: “Can I see the sea or town from here?” “What appears after crossing a ridge?” Use lines of sight as evidence.

Survey in Giant Mode

From above, focus on rivers, plains, and boundaries between highlands and lowlands. Look for easy routes and defensible chokepoints (ridge lines, valley mouths).
